GOP Guilty Of Using Terrorism At Home

The politics of fear is a fascinating subject but it’s sad that we even need to have this discussion in the United States. It’s no secret that War itself helps promote candidates in a way that nothing else can. What the GOP found early in President Bush’s years is that terrorism and fear are just as effective as the “War effect” and are campaigns that can be run indefinitely. In 2006, Americans said NO, they refused to fall for the propaganda and put Democrats in office.

Republican strategists are back with a vengeance and it is obvious that they didn’t learn a lesson from 2006. They’ve come up with all sorts of excuses and reasons for their demise in 2006 and it apparently had nothing to do with the war. If you’ve listened to Mitt Romney lately, he pretty much says that the American people want “change” but not change in policy, they want government to become effective. His argument is that if Americans had a leader that would allow the U.S. to go back to Bush’s rubber-stamping days, we’d essentially have “change” that the American people could go for.

John McCain’s campaign is banking on it.

Rudy Giuliani is basing his entire campaign around your fear.

Still not afraid? Then bravo! Keep vigilant in this fight against terrorism because the terrorism is no longer a foreign threat. Until the 2008 election is over, expect a barrage of terrorist tactics to come out of our political campaigns. The majority will come from Rudy Giuliani as he is prone to doing in the past, but it looks like John McCain is getting in on the action and it wouldn’t surprise me to see Mitt Romney try this tactic as well.

Even during the debates, the fear-driven politics governs discussions if you let it:

If you watched the above video, you listened to Mike Huckabee spin the Iraq War into a social responsibility question. He says that we made a mistake, but now it’s about “Honor” for our soldiers and upholding honor for the party and U.S.

It may be just one opinion, but it is shared globally and more than half the country is anti-War at this point. It’s disingenuous to suggest that Americans are interested in “succeeding” in this war on terror when most experts know that this isn’t a “War” in the traditional sense. In fact, I’d say that most Americans are ready to pull the plug on Iraq out of disgust with the politics of fear and the exploitation of God and country that has taken place in the political discourse.
