Hillary Clinton’s Next And Final Move

Barack Obama is closing in on the nomination, making Hillary Clinton’s ambitions unattainable for the time being.  Despite a sense of finality creeping in for Democratic supporters, there are still many questions to be answered.

Obama’s New Super Delegate Lead

Tom Allen, a Maine representative and candidate for the Senate, decided to speak out and cast his vote for Obama.  Allen believes the primaries are all but over.

“Most of the primary voters across the nation have now spoken. It is time to bring a graceful end to the primary campaign.”

Interesting choice of words.  Allen believes that it is time to unite the party and prepare for the general election.

“We now need to unify the Democratic Party and focus on electing Sen. Obama and a working majority in the United States Senate.  That is how we can change the direction of the country,”  Allen said.

How will Hillary Clinton handle defeat?  This is the question that has pundits losing sleep at night.  The last thing Democrats need is for Hillary Clinton to go down swinging and weakening her Democratic colleague and party in the process.  Cynics would say that the Clintons don’t care about anyone but themselves and will stop at nothing to achieve their personal objectives.

It is true that Clinton’s campaign has a history of scorching the opposition, they play hard ball politics 24/7 and there are no indicators to suggest that this theme will change.  For some people, myself included, this primary was over long ago and it is increasingly difficult to argue that Hillary Clinton still has a shot at winning the nomination.  Nevertheless, the Clinton campaign continues to argue that the primary will end with a popular vote that favors Senator Clinton.

The argument most frequently made by the Clinton campaign is that (if you include Michigan and Florida) Hillary Clinton will enjoy more votes by Americans when all is said and done.

Could Hillary Clinton Sabotage Obama’s Candidacy? Some Obama supporters might groan and sigh at the possibility of a “dream ticket”, but the fact remains that she is and was a formidable adversary.

The 2008 elections are too important to allow petty differences to get in the way of victory.    What Obama supporters must remember is that if Clinton does not make it past the democratic primary, she would continue to be Barack Obama’s worst nightmare, assuming she is poised to run in 2012.  Many of Clinton’s staunch supporters have already threatened to jump ship to John McCain if Hillary doesn’t win the nomination.  What this means is that Obama has a strong reason to consider Hillary Clinton as her vice presidential candidate.

Beyond the democratic primary, Hillary Clinton’s next move is crucial to her viability as a future candidate.  Just like Clinton might be a hopeless cause without Barack Obama at her side, the reverse might be true because of the fact that Hillary is so ambitious and wants desperately to make history as the first elected female to he most powerful position in the world.

Could it be that Hillary Clinton’s plan is to make Obama’s path to the White House an impossibility if she is left off the ticket?  The months ahead will provide a few defining moments as American history unfolds before our eyes.
