bipartisan immigration bill destined to fail

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Bush, promoting bipartisan immigration talks as they reach a critical stage, said Saturday that Republicans and Democrats are building consensus that could produce a bill this year.”I am optimistic we can pass a comprehensive immigration bill and get this problem solved for the American people this year,” Bush said in his weekly radioillegal immigrants crossing border by riding in trunk address. Bush used the address to put pressure on senators as they prepare to hold a vote on the contentious issue next week. Signing an overhaul into law would be viewed as a marquee domestic achievement for the president.

Uh oh, where have I heard this before? Bipartisan efforts

Maybe you recall the 2000 concession speech by Gore, the Republican response and Bush’s pledge to work together to unite our country. I wrote an article entitled, “Forget to vote? deal with it!

Then there was the concession speech and McCain’s bipartisan optimism.

Before Bush spoke, U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, said of Gore’s address, “I’ve never seen him better” and that he expected an equally good speech from Bush. “But then we’ve got to sit down, and we’ve got to settle on an agenda that we can agree on, and campaign finance reform has got to be the first one, and it should be a bipartisan effort.”

Bush to Gore, “I look forward to working with you to heal the nation.”

Poor Al Gore, I remember I was in a weird mood one morning. Al was receiving a lot of press coverage regarding his documentary “An inconvenient truth” and I felt compelled to roast him. Word got back to me from his campaign, I made him cry with my Al gore rant.

Oh well, I don’t mean to sound so negative, I just don’t buy this bipartisan bit from the President and Congress. Neither side has gotten it right yet and its been almost 6 months since the new congress was elected! Get with the program, or we’ll find somebody that will.
