Congress, U.S. Senate News
Today, the Senate debated the merits of S 1644 on Homeland Security Spending. Senator Ted Kennedy delivered a passionate speech by against President Bush.
Ted Kennedy yelled at the President from the U.S. Senate floor.
“Al Qaida was was the problem after 9/11 and we went into Iraq!”
For context, the shouting happened during Kennedy’s speech on homeland security and immigration, he was discussing how terrible it is to continue ignoring serious national issues to persist with the President’s immigration policy disguised as homeland security.
Senator Ted Kennedy yells at President George W. Bush
Ted Kennedy yelled at the President, he screamed so loud, he was losing his voice! If I didn’t know any better, I’d bet the president heard the shouting that criticized his policy initiatives. Senator Kennedy accused the President of insisting on sponsoring poorly conceived border security measures at a time when we have more serious problems, like terrorism, crime, and domestic issues like Education and Drugs.
He argued that if we’re going to have a strong border and we’re going to keep agricultural workers out, then we need to work on policy that is going to take care of the area. We need to take care of the most vulnerable people of our country, children brought here through no fault of their own. He wants to sponsor the “Dream Act” which essentially protects children of illegal immigrants rather than forcing them to go back to Mexico and pay fines for illegally entering the U.S. to seek jobs and a better life.

The Dream Act encourages young people to serve in the Military
It’ll give an important boost to the armed forces of the country dealing with the security of the nation and therefore making it relevant to the Homeland Security.

More on Congress, Senator Joe Lieberman
Information about September 11th firefighters and poor and failing communications equipment that resulted in the deaths of a number firefighters and civilians has sparked discussion and debate in Congress on federal funding.
Senator Joe Lieberman re: communications and interoperability of devices
“People watching on TV that day, certainly had more knowledge about what was happening 100 levels above us than we did while inside the building. “
The Congressmen are trying to patch up the problems recently raised by the firefighter chief of NY. If you weren’t aware, 11 firefighters blamed Rudy Giuliani for the deaths of a number of firemen because he did not adequately fund them. The accusation was that by ignoring public policy that would help save lives, (e.g. adequate communication equipment) Rudy Giuliani was personally responsible for peoples deaths despite his frequently exploiting his “heroic” public image in the wake of 9/11.
He was viewed as so relevant to the heroism that helped New York recover from the 9/11 attack that Giuliani and partners earned $100 MILLION dollars off of the crisis.

The Congress then got into a tussle over the merits of Immigration vs. National Security and bill S 1644 which increases staff for the border patrol and reserves funds for the wall along the southwest border, enforcement of immigration laws in the workplace .
Politics as usual. The bill passed, takes care of some border ’security’ issues but ignored the agricultural farm bill that is threatening American farmworkers.
