‘I raped an Iraqi girl and helped kill her’

Those were the words of an American Soldier who testified against 3 others allegedly involved in the crimes. Green was discharged from the Army for a personality disorder before the allegations became known, and prosecutors have yet to say if they will pursue the death penalty against him. CNN The story is a disturbing case of four men who allegedly raped a 14 year old girl, then proceeded to kill her and burn her body to destroy the evidence. They then sought and murdered her Father, Mother and 6 year old sister.

Some say the devil made them do it and this is all further proof that the end is near! For those of us who are firmly entrenched in the reality of the world, we have to dig a bit deeper than the bible for an answer. What would drive men to commit such heinous crimes? Were they very sexual beings who were denied their spouses for several years and went psychologically insane?

Did these men lose touch with reality and begin to feel they were above the law, powerful or not morally or legally culpable for such acts since they were lowly Iraqis? I wonder if race, skin color, politics, revenge or something not apparent on the surface was at the root of such a crime. We are not talking about one man losing it and violently inflicting pain on another human being. This case is about four men who appear to have committed premeditated murder of an entire family and conspired to rape a young girl.

  1. I do believe these guys were stuck in a bad position by being over in Iraq in the first place. I mean these are men. Of course being away from their wives, kids and family for so long and see some of the things they do over there is going to drive them crazy. It has driven some of these soldiers crazy enough that when they have gotten back home they have committed suicide. But back to this situation, I do think the guys were wrong for raping and killing this girl. Do I think they deserve the death penalty? No. Life in prison? Yes I could see that happening. I guess I am not as harsh as some people who will think they deserve that death penalty and I think thats because I think about what they have had to go through and see over there in Iraq.
