On American Imperialism

Gorbachev made highly critical remarks about President Bush and U.S. imperialism. He was quick to point out his disappointment with Bush’s “poor policy decisions.” Gorbachev had much to say in an interview, Wednesday on CNN.

Gorbachev Interview - CNN Live
He called the United States on its recent invasion of Europe and said that he was very disappointed with President Bush and his policies. This is the same man that worked so hard with Ronald Reagan to put an end to the Cold War and turn the cheek on a very frightening era of World History. Now, some alarmists like to scream foul on Bush and call the United States imperialists who are threatening to bring back the arms race.

Putin’s spokesman on CNN
Its a very sensitive subject in Europe, which is why you hear such strong language being used by everyone involved in the discussion, but we are no where near reviving the Cold War. We are, however, deeply troubled with the direction the United States has taken and believe. Russia believes that President Bush’s policies are detrimental to the efforts of many global leaders who have worked so hard to promote world peace and stability. When asked if this would lead to global conflict, he said it would not be on the level that the media is carrying it out and that its nowhere near another “Cold War”

For the record, Putin relaxed his rhetoric and tone on Thursday

Putin on Thursday made a statement and toned down the nuclear arms race rhetoric. It had to have taken mighty courage to do an about face. Putin was shouting some pretty serious allegations about American imperialism and poor Bush policies. The rhetoric was putting the United States in a very difficult position given its current position on Iraq and the morale of the nation being as low as it has been in decades.
