Ann Coulter was interviewed tonight on CNBC’s “The Big Idea” show. She was asked what her vision of a “Perfect America” would be. Here is how she started her answer:
“Everyone would be happy, Republican and we would look like America did during the NYC Republican convention.”
Of course, it didn’t stop there, how could it with Ann Coulter on the show?
Aside from her usual routine of stating that liberals suck, Ann went on to say that non-Christians, like Jews would be Christian in a”Perfect America.” In her view, correcting what is flawed about Judaism, would make things right for our country.
“Jews need to be perfected”
“Do you really believe that all Americans should be Christian?”
“It would make everything a heck of a lot easier…”
The show was abruptly cut and went to commercials and when Ann Coulter was back on the air she was given a chance to explain her statement on Jews and faith.
Of course, Ann Coulter didn’t back down. Here’s what she had to say:
Our testament is a continuation of your testament. We do think Jews go to Heaven, but we consider ourselves perfected Jews. This should not be offensive at all!
Christian’s consider themselves perfected Jews.
The new testament is what Christians believe. Coulter argued that since the New testament came after the Old testament, it must be what God intended for us to adhere to. Coulter was caught a bit off guard by the tension and the controversy that followed. She saw nothing wrong with thinking America would be better off if everyone were Christian, if “jews were perfected” and the political conversation changed so all liberals reflected Joe Lieberman’s views.
As for her thoughts on the Presidential Election, the candidates are too liberal for her taste. She believes Rudy Giuliani will win the Republican nomination convincingly, but would prefer Duncan Hunter.

She made every effort to talk about how horrible liberals are and used the “I wish they supported America” propaganda against the fake Americans. When asked about John Edwards, she stuttered. It was strange to see her out of her element, but she recovered soon enough and explained that her statement was taken out of context. She tried to explain how it wasn’t as bad as the liberals made it sound, but she struggled to sound convincing so the show moved on.
Ann Coulter is one of a kind
The stuff that comes out of Ann Coulter’s mouth is pretty amazing. Just try listening to her talk for a half hour and she is bound to strike a nerve somewhere, somehow. I am convinced she is the only American that can pull off hate speech with regularity and get away with it because of her reputation for being extreme. She capitalizes off of this, makes millions, but refuses to admit it is part of her business strategy.
Ann Coulter says she represents what real Americans think. She contends that she simply doesn’t back down when pushed on the issues. She speaks her mind and wishes more Americans would! The manipulative, self-promoting, devilish character of hers is a thing of beauty… when she isn’t being terribly annoying. Strangely, despite a few irritating statements, I thought she was on her best behavior.

I’m one of the evil moderates that doesn’t meet the high bar she sets for “Americans” and I find her rather charming, funny, witty and clever at times. Then again, maybe I’m just a bit high off of the Dallas Cowboys win earlier this evening, because calling Ann Coulter a thing of beauty just doesn’t sound right. One thing is certain, CNBC and “the Big Idea” will probably think twice before inviting Ann Coulter on the show again.

It’s a shame they won’t have her on again . . . she’s great for ratings, at least until people have stomached 5 minutes of her shtick and gotten a bit ill.
She really is a phony, though. It IS an act. Nobody could be that much of a foot-in-mouth conservative firebrand. She even defended Joseph McCarthy, which is absurd considering how much damage he did to anyone actually involved in stopping malevolent Communist operatives in the United States (which did exist, just not at the scale and not in the places that McCarthy imagined). Why she has never sung the praises of Morris Childs is beyond me. Maybe she doesn’t even know who he was or what he did?
I just don’t understand how she can spew so much hate speech, argue that she is 100% not an ‘entertainer’, but a realist and find publishers, the media and talk shows to continue giving her a forum to speak. Free speech is one thing, but a lot of what she says is just hateful.
Ann Coulter is a pig. Here is a woman who ceases to exist as a human being day by day in the eyes of many people with each word she speaks. Why she thinks its so “cute” to be venomous, so hateful, is beyond the study of man.

You’re kidding, right? You obviously suffer from selective hearing. Hate speech? Have you listened to Kerry, Edwards, and Ms. Clinton?

How close Colter is to Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels! Only, where Dr. Goebbels gave us “The Jews are to blame for everything,” she has said “Liberals are to blame for everything,” smuggling in the word “liberal” for Jew. She has done this in a thousand places, using the time-honored phrasings of hatemongers and scapegoaters everywhere. I think she’s a sick individual, beyond crazed on the subject of liberals, who after all, gave us the GI Bill creating the middle class.
This woman is SO dangerous. Remember the old saying “They came for the Jews, but I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew. . . finally, they came for me, and there was no one left to speak up for me.”? Well, I’m not a Jew, but millions of my brothers and sisters are, and I am furious! If it didn’t come wrapped in a beautiful package, we would see this evil for exactly what it is.
Ann just said what most people think…Jews are taking to much room in America

Mark: Jews are ‘fair game’, sure, but shouldn’t a person of Ann Coulter’s notoriety be more intelligent about how she chooses to fight these battles? Lets say for a moment that Christians are entitled to their views, just as Jews and Muslims are. To say that a perfect America requires that everyone be converted to Christianity is one thing. The assertion itself is intolerant of other’s views. To go off and claim that Jews are “imperfect Christians and therefore in a perfect America, “Jews would be perfected” is another. The show had little to do with the bible or religious conflict for that matter before she injected the clever prickly ideas she is well known for. And for what it is worth, no, I do not believe that there are many people out there that can get away with slander, hate speech, tidy it up in fancy rhetoric and call it political discourse.
By that same token, I’ve never advocated against her right to speech! It is every American’s right to say what they believe, but when you are talking about NBC promoting such people, it should also be the right of every American to speak out against her views and opinions. I don’t see why defending the Jewish faith is any less important than defending Christianity itself, or fighting against Racist or otherwise hateful speech.

You’d see that the comments under Ann Coulter’s columns are frequently supported by Right Wing loyalists. She has become an Icon of the Republican party, and even if liberals choose to ignore her or write her off as irrelevant, it doesn’t make it so. As long as she has a say in the direction of the GOP and as long as her voice goes unchallenged, she remains a problem in American politics. Don’t agree with her? Then challenge her, don’t ignore her, that is the worst thing you could do!

As a Jew I am grossly offended. But isn’t that the point? This woman is a fraud. She is far too intelligent to believe the venom she spews. I see her as a kind of Borat on steroids….the more outrageous the comment, the bigger the reaction. She comes up with these ridiculous statements for the sole purpose of getting air time and selling her books. Unfortunately, the media is all too willing to accomodate her. And as some of the previous comments clearly show, there are far too many people in this country who are naive enough or biased enough or intollerant enough to agree with her and therein lies the danger. I totally agree with Fred that she needs to be challenged, not ignored.
What Ann said is Christianity 101 – God wants all to put their trust in Jesus Christ’s redemptive work on the cross and receive eternal life – whether Jew or Greek.

So, what would an intelligent challenge to what Ann said here look like? Would you seriously challenge the belief espoused by Jesus Christ and the Apostle Paul and others in the New Testament that Jews need to put their faith in Jesus Christ to be saved?
On what authority would you attack this clear New Testament teaching?
If any Jews are reading this you MUST let go of your ancestral pride and look seriously at Jesus Christ and His claims (i.e. that He is the ONLY way, that He will judge the world, that He alone has power to give eternal life, etc.).

Quinn: I really like that you quoted the bible, thank you. What you just did was intelligent, helpful, it made points without attacking others for being non-Christian. There is a difference between what you just did and what Ann Coulter did. Ann has a reputation in the political sphere that is synonymous with Evil / the Devil. The reason Ann Coulter is receiving heat on this issue is she implied that a “perfect America” would consist of “perfected Jews”.
This is, of course, contrary to the imperfection that epitomizes the Jews at this imperfect time in our imperfect nation. If you consider recent American history it is easy to understand why the subject and even the phrase “imperfect Jews” is so offensive? I understand why Christians come to the defense of the statement itself, but isn’t it bad form to support Coulter’s way of making the biblical point? What she did was enrage a lot of people, this makes global conflict more difficult to discuss, and any kind of conversation that might ‘help’ the biblical cause is destroyed because of the outrage.
Ann Coulter sells her books to more conservatives, she’ll receive praise from right wing fundamentalist Christians for “waging this war” or mini-battle. However, the big picture is now more bleak. When this is done in reference to Muslims, it creates a lesser chance of the coveted “world peace”. It makes it more likely that a suicide bomber will attempt to attack American interests. When Christians conflict with Jews in this way, what interest is served? Not a single positive thing comes of it if you can’t use this opportunity to talk rationally and respectfully. The opposite is, hate, intolerance, war, death, and more Americans lose interest in religion and Christianity.
This isn’t a “double edge sword” it’s a very sharp sword that some Christians (like Ann Coulter) are sticking through the heart of Christianity.
Religious conflict is a global problem, one religion’s ‘facts’ invalidates other religion’s ‘facts’. It not only invalidates ‘everything they know about their place in the world’ but it tells them that Christians view them as a lesser form of being.
If Ann Coulter really wanted to help convert Jewish people into the Christian faith, or even to simply agree on certain facts, the WRONG way to do it is described in the article above.
Ann Coulter, being composed of hate, spewing venom, does not know God, for as First John says, God is love and those who hate do not know him.

As a New Testament scholar, I have to say that Ann Coulter is drawing specifically on one strand of New Testament thought at the expense of others. The Gospel of John in particular, in response to the fact that the end of the world did not occur as quickly as the earliest Christians had expected, moved the final judgment into the present, and made be it on the basis of how one responds to Jesus.
In Romans 2:6-10, on the other hand, Paul states very clearly the principle that God will render to each one according to what he has done, a principle also found in the Gospel of Matthew (for instance in the Sermon on the Mount and the parable of the sheep and the goats) and in Revelation 20:12.
If Scarborough claimed that the idea is NOWHERE in the New Testament, then he was mistaken. But Coulter’s approach is also problematic – choosing one particular view expressed in the New Testament and then reading everything else through that lens and forcing everything else to fit that mold.

“Hate speech”? For a Christian to say that they honestly believe that it would be better for a Jew or anyone else of another faith to convert to Christianity? We get told all the time that we must try to understand and tolerate other faiths and points of view, but it seems that this doesn’t apply to secularists trying to understand anything a Christian might say. It’s not as if those OTHER beliefs and points of view don’t get plenty of airtime in the US, either.
As another Christian “fundamentalist”, I understand what Ann Coulter said, although I might not put it quite the same way. I think that what she is referring to are particularly beautiful aspects of the Christian faith. However, here’s my quote for Ann Coulter: “Cast not your pearls before swine, lest they trample them underfoot, and turning round, rend you”. (Quoted from memory, sorry if it’s not word perfect).
Look, the Jewish response doesn’t seem to agree with your assessment. If an Islamic fundamentalist were to comment that everyone in the world needs to be converted to Islam in order to have a “perfect” world as Allah would want it, would you label that ‘hateful’? I can tell you that our government labels those people Terrorists.
Are you trying to tell me that you would say, “Oh, that’s nice that you think that.. everyone is entitled to their own opinion, carry on.” Therein lies the problem with religion and people who choose to “spread the message” of God in the way that say,… Ann Coulter does.
