Government whistle blower wants to tell all

It looks like some Americans might hear a tale of government corruption and “cover-up” that they’ve been expecting to hear.

I don’t get involved with the conspiracy theorist activity that is rampant on the Internet.  I’m aware of the ‘building’ 7 controversy and the allegations of government complicity, if not direct involvement, in the September 11th terrorist attacks.   The interesting spin on this story, is that it involves a government FBI agent who was privy to information concerning many questions that were left unresolved after September 11th.

Siblel Edmonds is a ‘credible witness’ and threat to our government

From the Brad Blog - Remember the exclusive story you aired on Sibel Edmonds, originally on October 27th, 2002, when she was not allowed to tell you everything that she heard while serving as an FBI translator after 9/11 because she was gagged by the rarely-invoked “States Secret Privilege”? Well, she’s still gagged. In fact, as the ACLU first described her, she’s “the most gagged person in the history of the United States of America.”

I’m a fan of the decentralization of the media due to Internet and citizen journalism, but it’s important to warn you in advance: I’m not familiar with all of the bloggers out there.  I can’t tell you who is credible and who is not.  I can’t tell you if this story is going to legitimately turn up network support or if it’ll go nowhere.  What I can tell you, is that in this era of political hacking, this reporting / story of a potential smoking gun is no less credible than the filth broadcast as ‘real news’ over the airwaves.  That said, it harms no one to discuss the issues that are raised by the story, so let me entertain you with some ideas for a moment.

First, lets assume for a moment that Sibel Edmond is legit, she tells all, and drops some serious allegations that point to criminality, corruption and abuse of government power.   What happens next?  Does Sibel Edmond become a threat to the U.S. government, and will she be taken into custody to enforce a gag?  Strange possibility, but assuming she has State secrets that the government cannot afford to get out, will  her life be in danger?  It sounds like something out of a Jason Bourne flick, but can she get the information out without fearing retaliation?   I hesitate to suggest that she could be in danger of physical harm, but she most certainly is putting her reputation and credibility on the line with this.   Will the information create a public outrage?  Is this going to be a huge circus in the media?  How will it affect the 2008 elections?  Will ths “State Secret” affect our enemies in Iraq and Al Qaida, or our ideas of motives behind our invasion of the middle east?

Next, if government officials were guilty of certain kinds of corruption, how much will be too much before they are forced from their offices?  Two Senators are mentioned in the story leading up to the big whistle  blowing event, who might they be, what do they know and are they going to step down before the story goes public?  Until a major network airs the interview, all we can do is speculate, but I can’t help but wonder if Americans will never know the entire story.  To release this information would result in accountability and blame, something our government is unwilling to compromise on.  A more important question I’ll leave you with is: if there is a smoking gun, will truth be more dangerous to our security and government stability than a reality we believe is true?

In the end, Apologists and “truthers” will do what they do best, and somewhere in the middle we’ll have truth.  I hope Americans are ready for it!  Oh well, get your popcorn ready, because the  ride to the 2008 election is going to be wildly entertaining.
