the White House spin: President Bush - Iraq War support
The President remains cryptic about Intelligence gathering that supports his Iraq War assertions. He continues to ask Americans for patience and “trust”, something that Americans have very little of these days.
With support for the Iraq War at an all time low, the Bush administration seeks to remind Americans of an increasingly dangerous terrorist situation at home and abroad. The Bush anti-terror campaign has argued that it is better to fight the war abroad than at home. His critics say that the Iraq War strengthens the enemy’s support and lower America’s image among allies and enemies which is counter productive.
From the NY Times today on Al Qaida’s renewed threat:
President Bush sought Tuesday to strengthen the connection between the terrorist network al-Qaida and the unceasing Iraq war, prodding people to remember the threat of attack at home. By stressing al-Qaida’s burgeoning operation in Iraq, Bush again aimed to frame the war in the public’s mind as a matter of protecting the United States. Yet the war itself has turned into a, senior intelligence officials concede. valuable recruiting tool for al-Qaida
Bush is up against highly skeptical audiences with 18 months left in office. The public has largely lost faith in the war, Congress is weighing ways to end it, and international partners have fading memories of the 2001 attacks against the U.S. In an afternoon speech to military personnel, Bush will warn that al-Qaida nowhere more so than from its base in Iraq. catastrophic threat to the U.S., anywhere remains a
Bush declassified information about al-Qaida’s operation for his speech. His goal is to show that al-Qaida in Iraq is a core part of the overall terror network — a direct jab at those who say U.S. troops in Iraq are bogged down against the wrong enemy.
A major obstacle the President faces in 2007 is his loss of credibility with Americans and politicians in Washington by crying wolf too many times!
On Iraq, arguments can go back and forth indefinitely, but the partisan rhetoric and tension harms our country’s morale and endangering our citizens, here’s proof: From Whitehouser.com June 22, 2007: TERRORIST’S THREATEN AMERICA
An American member of Al Qaeda warned President Bush on Tuesday to end U.S. involvement in all Muslim lands or face an attack worse than the Sept. 11according to a new videotape. suicide assault,
Wearing a white robe and a turban, the American - Al Qaida leader, Adam Yehiye Gadahn, who also goes by the name Azzam al-Amriki said Al Qaeda would not negotiate on its demands.
“Your failure to heed our demands … means that you and your people will … experience things which will make you forget all about the horrors of September 11th, Afghanistan and Iraq and Virginia Tech,†he said in the seven-minute video.
Terrorists aware of modern American culture
Let me point something that is not so obvious, in fact I missed it the first time around!
Despite the terrorists “desperate situation against Americans in Iraq,” the terrorist network has the time to take note of American culture and events including the Virginia Tech shooting that was arguably the biggest failure of the U.S. media since covering the Iraq controversy and 9/11.
It is interesting how well versed terrorists are on American culture. Consider the context and this premise: ‘the enemy’, Islamic fundamentalist and extremists are fighting for their lives in the middle east. They believe they’re at war with a Christian nation trying to destroy their way of life and convert them to Christianity. Most Americans are ignorant to world history and have no clue about America’s involvement in the middle east throughout the 20th century. Yet, this “backward” and “desperate” group somehow managed to stay up on current events.
A Public Relations nightmare
Finally, there is the problem of American trust.
Reference: September of 2003, the White House released a statement saying that the terrorists are desperate and we’re seeing success in Iraq
MR. McCLELLAN: Of course, terrorists are trying to take the fight — in a very important region of the world. terrorists are desperate because we are making some very important progress in Iraq
Terrorists will be dealt a significant blow when we help the Iraqi people achieve a sovereign, free and democratic society. That’s to be — it’s to be expected that terrorists will use desperate tactics and attack innocent people and attack the civilized world when we achieve success.
The problem with deceptions, white lies, and secretive government
- The White House has a problem with “Crying Wolf,” now
- When the enemy attacks, no one will believe Bush because no trust exists
- If attacked, the American people will be furious with President Bush
- Americans won’t flock to him like they did in 2004 out of fear of terror
- The President’s partisan warfare made it impossible to argue foreign policy
- We are in danger of an attack, YOU should be aware of the threat.
The White House and President Bush’s dilemma
Bush has lost the American trust, it’s a serious problem. If you’re not sure why it matters, consider that the President may not release statements and intelligence because if it happens to be untrue, the American confidence is further shaken. If the President does not release information (to “cover his ass) then partisans in Congress and the Democratic party will have ammunition against him and further brand him a failure.
We’ve had our taste of the President’s war on terror. People who stood down in the past, because they feared charges of “Unamerican and Unpatriotic” for dissenting, are not going to do so any longer. When Democrats attack the President’s promises and war rhetoric, they are within their right to do so, just think of the nasty political rhetoric and tactics used to stifle dissenting opinions.
Will this get in the way of our nation’s security?
If we put political differences aside for a moment and pay attention to what is happening in the world, the country would be better off. Our media isn’t doing us a favor in this regard, they are trying to sell newspapers. I guarantee you the President has so much going on with Iraq and public dissent that there is no way he could meet the needs of Americans that may be in danger on the homeland security front.
Remember, Al Qaida’s leader has THREATENED an attack beyond anything we could imagine, so wherever you go keep an eye out for suspicious characters. It is important that we remain vigilant during these dark times.
