In a tragic turn of events, Taiwan was struck by a powerful 7.2 magnitude earthquake on Wednesday, causing chaos and destruction in the nation. The earthquake triggered rockslides in the mountainous region, with shocking dashcam footage capturing boulders crashing against drivers on a narrow road.
The footage shows a leading vehicle suddenly backing up to avoid the rockslide, only to be hit by a massive boulder. Other cars can be seen either backing up or attempting to drive through the road as boulders land inches away, narrowly missing them.
Authorities in Taiwan have reported at least nine people dead and 1,000 injured as a result of the earthquake. In addition, 646 individuals have been trapped in hotels due to destroyed roads, with rescue efforts currently underway to free them.
This earthquake is said to be the strongest to hit Taiwan in 25 years, with the epicenter located in the rural area of Hualien. Residents have also felt hundreds of aftershocks, with one reaching a magnitude of 6.5. The impact of the earthquake was even felt in Japan, where a small tsunami was triggered on Yonaguni island.
