An out-of-town visitor who stayed in downtown Cincinnati last week has tested positive for measles, prompting warnings from the Cincinnati Health Department. The infected person flew from Chicago to CVG and stayed at the Hyatt Regency on West Fifth Street, where staff, guests, or visitors after 9 p.m. on Wednesday may have been exposed.
The visitor also stopped at Morton’s Steakhouse on Vine Street for takeout, potentially exposing guests around 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. that night. Symptoms of measles include high fever, cough, runny nose, watery eyes, and a rash appearing three to five days later. Those who were at the Hyatt or Morton’s during those hours and develop symptoms are advised to get tested and isolate.
This is the second reported case of measles involving a nonresident in Cincinnati this year, with the last case being linked to an attendee of the “Disney on Ice” show in March. Health officials urge individuals to check their immunity status and consider getting the MMR vaccine, which is part of routine childhood immunizations.
The risk of contracting measles for those who have been vaccinated or previously had the virus is low. However, as of the latest data, there have been 121 reported measles cases across 18 jurisdictions in the U.S. in 2024. Stay vigilant and seek medical attention if necessary to prevent the spread of the highly contagious virus.
