AMD is gearing up to launch its new Dragon Range CPUs, specifically designed for high-end laptops. These CPUs, known as the Ryzen 7045HX series, combine desktop and mobile features to provide a significant boost in multi-threading performance.
The flagship model in the Dragon Range series is the Ryzen 9 7945HX3D, which boasts 64MB of 3D V-Cache and a total of 128MB of L3 cache. This model showcases AMD’s ambitions in the mobile gaming platform. However, the high cost of the CPU and compatibility issues with powerful discrete GPUs have limited its availability.
To cater to a wider range of consumers, AMD plans to expand its lineup with two new SKUs: the 16-core Ryzen 9 7940HX and the 12-core Ryzen 9 7840HX. These new models are expected to have slightly lower clock speeds compared to the existing CPUs in the 7945/7845HX series.
While the exact release date has not been confirmed, the use of the Ryzen 7000 branding suggests that these SKUs are scheduled for a 2023 release. However, there are speculations that they may hit the market as early as next year.
In an effort to strengthen its presence in the mobile market, AMD is also introducing the Radeon RX7900M mobile GPU featuring Navi 31. This move aims to provide more options to laptop manufacturers and cater to the growing demand for mobile gaming systems. However, there is room for improvement, as there is currently a lack of upper mid-range options in all-AMD systems.
AMD’s rival, Intel, is not sitting idly either. The company is preparing to release its updated 14th Gen Core-HX series to compete with AMD in the high-profit-margin market.
With the expansion of its Dragon Range CPUs and the introduction of the Radeon RX7900M mobile GPU, AMD is clearly determined to compete head-to-head with Intel. These developments also signify the company’s commitment to providing more choices and better performance for gamers on the go.
As the battle for dominance in the high-end laptop market intensifies, consumers can expect to see a wider range of options and improved performance across different brands.
