Locals and spring breakers in Florida are in for a treat this upcoming Saturday as SpaceX is gearing up for a double rocket launch extravaganza. If all goes according to plan, spectators will witness not one, but two Falcon 9 rockets launching back-to-back in the evening.
The first launch is scheduled for 5:52 p.m. from Kennedy Space Center’s Pad 39A and will carry the Eutelsat 36D telecommunications satellite for Africa and Eurasia. Following shortly after, at 9:02 p.m., the second launch will take place from Launch Complex 40, deploying 23 satellites into orbit.
Weather conditions are expected to be perfect for both launches, with a slim less than 5 percent chance of any delays. The last time a double rocket launch occurred was in February when SpaceX successfully launched the Intuitive Machines moon lander and a USSF-124 national security mission.
Unfortunately, the final flight of United Launch Alliance’s Delta IV Heavy has been postponed due to technical issues, with a potential launch window set for Monday at 1:25 p.m. ULA plans to replace the retiring Delta IV Heavy with the next-generation Vulcan rocket.
The double-header rocket launch on Saturday promises to be an exciting event for all in attendance, with the potential for a spectacular sky show. Visitors, like the Kendall family from New York, may have been disappointed by the delays in the Delta IV Heavy launch, but remain optimistic for future opportunities to witness these awe-inspiring rocket launches.
