Google’s Pixel Watch Takes on Apple and Samsung in the Smartwatch Market
After years of anticipation, tech giant Google finally unveiled its very first smartwatch, the Pixel Watch, last year. Stepping into a highly competitive market, the Pixel Watch faced stiff competition from Apple’s flagship Apple Watch and Samsung’s popular line of wearables.
When it came to designing the Pixel Watch, Google placed special emphasis on health tracking. The company’s recent acquisition of Fitbit proved instrumental in the development of this feature-rich smartwatch. Keeping this in mind, the Pixel Watch 2, recently announced at a Google event, doesn’t deviate much from its predecessor but does introduce some exciting new attributes.
One of the biggest updates to the Pixel Watch 2 is its enhanced heart rate monitoring capabilities. Thanks to two new sensors from the Fitbit line, this smartwatch now offers stress management features. Using body-response tracking, the Pixel Watch 2 combines data from various sensors to detect potential signs of stress and provide timely interventions.
In recent years, mental health and stress management have become top priorities for wearable technology, and the Pixel Watch 2 aims to address these concerns. In addition to the stress management feature, the new heart rate sensor provides more accurate readings during exercise. The smartwatch also boasts automatic tracking for seven different workout types.
Safety is another key aspect that Google focused on while developing the Pixel Watch 2. The smartwatch includes features like Safety Check, Fall Detection, and Emergency SOS, ensuring users’ wellbeing at all times.
Furthermore, the Pixel Watch 2 boasts additional functionality with the inclusion of Gmail and Google Calendar apps. It also offers new watch faces with At a Glance features, making it easier for users to access essential information at a glance.
Improvements have also been made to the Pixel Watch 2’s battery life. With the always-on display feature, the smartwatch can now last up to 24 hours on a single charge. Charging the device takes only 75 minutes, ensuring users can quickly get back to using their watch.
The Pixel Watch 2 is now available for pre-order, with prices starting at $349. To sweeten the deal, Google is offering six months of Fitbit’s premium service to customers who purchase the smartwatch.
With its focus on health tracking, advanced features, and competitive pricing, the Pixel Watch 2 aims to make a name for itself in the highly saturated smartwatch market. Time will tell if it can outshine its rivals, but Google’s entry into this space is undoubtedly a welcome development for tech enthusiasts and wearables aficionados worldwide.
