Jury selection in the hush money trial against former President Donald Trump is well underway in Manhattan. So far, seven jurors have been seated, but the process is far from over as the aim is to form a panel of 12 jurors and six alternates.
Prospective jurors have been subjected to a rigorous screening process, including a questionnaire phase and questioning by both the district attorney’s office and Trump’s legal team. Challenges have arisen during the selection process, with Trump’s attorney challenging several jurors and calling for some to be dismissed for cause based on their social media posts.
Both the prosecution and defense are allowed 10 peremptory strikes to remove jurors from the pool, with six strikes each being used up to this point. Tensions have also been high during jury selection, with the judge giving Trump a stern warning for reacting visibly and audibly to a potential juror in court.
The next phase of jury selection will resume on Thursday morning, with a new group of 96 potential jurors being sworn in. The trial is expected to continue as the process of selecting a jury moves forward. Stay tuned for more updates on this high-profile trial on ‘White Houser.’
