Headline: Mortal Kombat 1 to Launch Without Crossplay, Developer Plans to Add Feature Post-launch
In a recent announcement, it has been confirmed that the highly anticipated Mortal Kombat 1 will not have crossplay functionality at launch. Developer NetherRealm is, however, actively working on implementing this feature into the game post-launch.
The absence of crossplay was officially confirmed through a tweet from the official Mortal Kombat account, disappointing fans who were hoping for the ability to play with friends across different platforms. The inclusion of crossplay has been a topic of debate within the Mortal Kombat community, with a listing on the game’s Steam page briefly appearing before being deleted.
The ultimate goal is to create a unified gaming experience, where PC and console players can battle against each other in one shared pool. While Mortal Kombat 11 had crossplay between PlayStation and Xbox consoles, other fighting games like Street Fighter 6 have effortlessly incorporated crossplay across all platforms.
Warner Bros. Games recently unveiled the Mortal Kombat 1 launch trailer, which showcased thrilling gameplay featuring characters like Reiko and the iconic Shang Tsung. The game is set to be released on September 14 for those with early access from the Premium Edition, while everyone else will have to wait until September 19.
Additionally, fans who pre-order Mortal Kombat 1 will be rewarded with the enigmatic Shang Tsung as a bonus character. Another exciting addition to the game’s roster is Nitara, who will be voiced by actress Megan Fox.
In a recent interview at gamescom, the game’s development chief, Ed Boon, discussed the challenges and visions behind Mortal Kombat 1. He highlighted the team’s dedication to delivering the most immersive and thrilling experience possible for players.
As a nod to the iconic Mortal Monday TV commercial from years ago, a live-action trailer featuring Dave Bautista has been released, adding to the hype and nostalgia surrounding the game.
While the absence of crossplay at launch may disappoint some fans, the assurance from NetherRealm that they are actively working on implementing this feature gives hope that Mortal Kombat 1 will eventually become a truly inclusive gaming experience. Players will just have to wait a little longer to pit their skills against opponents on different platforms.
