Taylor Swift has once again made music history with her latest album “The Tortured Poets Department,” breaking her own record for the most sales of a vinyl album in a week. The pop superstar sold an impressive 700,000 LP copies of the album in just three days, surpassing her previous record of 693,000 copies for “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” in a seven-day period.
Swift’s success in the vinyl market doesn’t stop there. Her album “Midnights” set a weekly vinyl sales record before “1989” with 570,000 copies sold. Prior to Swift’s reign, the highest record belonged to Harry Styles with 372,000 vinyl copies of “Harry’s House” sold in its first week.
Sales records have been meticulously kept since 1991 by SoundScan, showing that no one has come close to Swift’s astounding numbers over the last 33 years. “The Tortured Poets Department” has already reached 1.5 million overall sales in three days, with vinyl accounting for almost half of that. It is expected that the album will easily surpass 2 million album-equivalent units for the week.
The dominance of pop superstars in the vinyl market is a recent phenomenon, with Jack White holding the record in 2014 with 40,000 LP sales of “Lazaretto.” Swift’s latest achievements further solidify her position as one of the music industry’s biggest stars, breaking records and setting new standards with each release.
