Fort Campbell Soldier Indicted for Selling National Defense Secrets to China
Korbein Schultz, a U.S. Army soldier stationed at Fort Campbell, has been indicted on charges of selling national defense secrets to China. Schultz, who was an army intelligence analyst with the First Battalion of the 506th Infantry Regiment, faces charges including conspiracy to unlawfully communicate defense information, unlawful export of defense articles to China, and bribery of a public official.
According to court documents, Schultz received a total of $42,000 over 14 payments for sharing information about advanced military technology and tactics with individuals linked to the Chinese government. He also discussed the possibility of moving to Hong Kong and becoming a “senior partner” with a “big signing bonus” with his co-conspirators.
Family members of Schultz have expressed shock and confusion over his arrest, with many mentioning his military background and the fact that he had received the Army Good Conduct Medal in the past. However, Schultz’s case adds to a concerning trend of military personnel being arrested for selling sensitive information to foreign countries.
FBI Special Agent in Charge Douglas DePodesta commented on Schultz’s arrest, stating that these cases are taken very seriously and that they jeopardize the security of the United States. Recent cases of military personnel arrested for sharing classified information were also highlighted, including the arrest of a U.S. Air Force employee in Nebraska and a Navy sailor in San Diego.
As Schultz’s case continues to unfold, the authorities are emphasizing the importance of safeguarding national defense secrets and preventing any further breaches of security within the military. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story on White Houser.
