Sonos Announces Expansion into New Product Markets, Competes with Apple
Popular speaker company Sonos is making a bold move by venturing into new product markets, which will put them in direct competition with tech giant Apple. One of their upcoming offerings, over-ear headphones, will rival Apple’s AirPods Max.
Sonos headphones are expected to provide users with voice control navigation and seamless integration with Sonos speakers, soundbars, and subwoofers. Priced between $400 and $500, they will fall within the same range as AirPods Max and other leading headphone brands.
However, Sonos plans to differentiate its headphones by focusing on customization and the ability to fine-tune sound. Users will have access to a dedicated app called “Passport” that offers an array of sound adjustments.
Exciting news for audio enthusiasts is that the over-ear headphones are set to hit the market as early as April 2024. Additionally, Sonos has hinted at the possibility of introducing earbuds similar to AirPods in the near future.
But Sonos’ ambitions don’t stop there. The company is planning to develop a set-top streaming box, similar to Apple TV, which is expected to launch in late 2024 or 2025. Acting as a hub for Sonos audio equipment, the streaming box will support Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision. It will also feature various apps and streaming services, providing a comprehensive home entertainment experience.
Running on an Android-based operating system, the set-top box may even offer live television offerings. Furthermore, there are rumors that Sonos is considering the creation of its very own video service, taking their expansion into the multimedia realm to a new level.
Sonos has a slew of other exciting projects in the pipeline as well. They are developing new amplifiers, in-ceiling speakers, a version of the Era 100 speakers catered to businesses, an updated Arc TV soundbar, an improved Sub that will sync seamlessly with the set-top box, and an updated Roam portable speaker.
Sonos CEO Patrick Spence is confident that these new products will enhance their existing lineup and generate over $100 million in revenue in 2024. As Sonos continues to evolve and expand its offerings, it promises an exciting future for audio and multimedia enthusiasts alike.
