United Airlines Commits to 110 New Long-Haul Aircraft, Emphasizing Confidence in Travel Demand
United Airlines has recently exercised options for the purchase of 110 new long-haul airplanes, demonstrating its strong belief in the ongoing demand for long-haul travel. The airline is set to convert options for 50 additional Boeing 787-9 aircraft into firm orders, along with 60 Airbus A321neo long-range narrow-body planes. Additionally, United has secured new options for an extra 50 Boeing 787s and 40 Airbus A321neos.
These new orders are expected to be delivered between 2028 and 2031 and will primarily replace the aging fleet of Boeing 757 and 767 aircraft currently operated by United. The airline is focusing on expanding its international routes as an integral part of its future growth strategy.
The Airbus A321neos possess the necessary range to support shorter long-haul routes, such as flights between the Northeastern United States and Iceland or Western Europe. Furthermore, United aims to enhance its offerings by introducing nonstop flights from U.S. hubs to less-frequented international destinations catered towards leisure travelers.
